Oyonnax, a small town of 22,000 inhabitants in the department of Ain, a specialized centre for plastics processing, the comb and spectacles capital of France, is a dynamic industrial town.

Manufacturing activity in the Oyonnax valley expanded rapidly from the mid-20th century onwards, due to the advent of plastics, which replaced the craft industries that had already been established for some decades.

The production of combs and spectacles has made Oyonnax famous throughout the world. The town is now home to the “Museum of the Comb and the Plastics Industry”.

Cellulose acetate is the only plastic which is not oil-based. It is produced from natural constituents, mostly cotton.This is a non-allergenic material.
